Emily Ennulat-Lustine Exhibition: "The Pause Between the Notes"
First Friday: November 6th, 6-9
Reception: Sunday, November 22nd, 12-3
Artist's statement -
"My recent work attempts to capture the fragile, ephemeral moments we share...those great pauses in between the notes that at times speak to us louder than the “music” itself. I am intrigued by the intimate communication that I witness daily between individuals both familiar and faceless and at times with our estranged selves. There appear to be countless opportunities to witness the beauty of our human nature connecting with one another by touch, if only with a glance or gesture. I am inspired by the instant when that transient union transcends the ordinary and becomes sacred."

Opening Reception:
Friday, November 13, 2009 7-10 pm
Amberella …sugary & sweet… Gallery & Boutique is pleased to present to you the works of Philadelphia artist Elena Nestico. The Solo Exhibition, “TAILPIPE DREAMS”, opens November 13, 2009 from 7-10 pm. The exhibit showcases the various ways in which Nestico captures the industrialized beauty that she is encompassed by. The artists, “TAILPIPE DREAMS”, are vivid looks into the palette of the artists mechanical mind.
Elena Nestico
Elena Nestico’s fascinations with industrial imagery and machinery began from growing up in the ever encompassing urban landscapes of New York, Philadelphia, and most importantly Northern New Jersey. This fascination furthered as she attended the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and began painting and abstracting the images of these particular landscapes that she found herself constantly surrounded by. Her artwork reflects the disturbing, yet rhythmic beauty of the “human made” machine, and the way that our man made reality interacts and is juxtaposed against the natural world. Whether she is painting and printing train trestles, oil refineries, or abandoned vehicles and motorcycles, her goal is to capture each image in an idealized setting.

Tory Franklin Exhibition "Serenata and Skirmish" @ Bambi Gallery
Tory Franklin: "Serenata and Skirmish" @ Bambi Gallery
Tory Franklin has the tenacity of a bulldog when it comes to making art. Hot off the heels of her FLUXspace show "Zooid Vamoose," her quirky sense of humor comes to life again at Bambi Gallery in November. This whimsical installation of grandeur is towering high above the average site line. Painted, printed and drawn on tyvek smoe of these works are 13 feet tall.
Serenata is an expansion of forays into baroque entertainment spaces, such as drawings and trophy rooms. With the focus on the music room. The space is adorned with large figurative drawings trapped in flux between the one composing the score and the instrument of implementation. An implausible cast of characters are trapped mid overture--a dandy with flutes for hands serenades a canary in crinoline, Siamese twin harpsichordists tink out a duet, tethered string sections strain and sway to break harmony. They tiptoe between desire and obsession, unable to escape what one is created to do.
Skirmish is vignettes of predators chasing prey through a florid savanna. These print clusters depict indivudal campaigns to map out a larger crusade. The animals pillage among pattern, participating in an opulent hunt (cat-and-mouse, tug-of-war). Carnivores stalk with dashing quarry and caged snaps. Paws flash claws; teeth are barred without blood in coquettish conflict. The mammal's choreographed retreats and rebounds become stand-ins for human interplay.
The pieces are tied together by a latticework of obsessive drawing and feverishly printed surfaces. Bombastic pattern is layered and broken creating a backdrop for anthropomorphized interactions.
